Couples versus Engagement Portraits: What’s the difference?

This is a question I get very frequently by newly engaged couples. And to be fair, there is not a whole lot of difference in the shoots themselves. But let’s take a look at some differences so that you can decide for yourself whether or not you want or need engagement portraits.

  • Have you taken professional couples portraits before?
  • Does your significant other have their wedding ring in the couples portraits you took before?
  • Are you using a picture for your wedding invites or for Save The Date cards?

The largest difference between the shoots is the ring. In engagement pictures, there are several pose options that involve the oh-so-important engagement ring, and it’s crucial to have that for these pictures. You are also celebrating your love together, as your pending nuptials are coming soon!
Save The Date pictures are ones incorporating surroundings or props to let your potential wedding guests know when you are scheduling your date if it is more than a couple months into the future. These are also great ideas for families spread out over multiple states so that flights can be booked and hotels reserved at cheaper rates due to the advanced notice.

Many of our couples and engagement sessions request props. Before purchasing any props for a shoot, PLEASE check with me. After multiple years in the industry, I have amassed quite the extensive collection of props, and may be able to provide what you are looking for. Those props are brought to the session for you at no additional cost. No lugging around stuff in the car, no upcharges, just relax and smile! I have this under control!
