What to wear to family portraits

One of the most frequent questions I get from my families is “What do we wear?”.

My most frequent response is typically, “What do you want to wear?”

We help match your setting to your theme or idea for the pictures. Then once a location has been selected, we get you going with wardrobe. These are the general rules of thumb:

  • If your shoot is outdoor, dress for the weather.
  • If it is in a park, stay away from earth tones, and opt instead for a jeweled or royal color. Turquoise and Coral tend to be very flattering.
  • Decide if you want the group to match exactly or if variances are acceptable.
  • There is no such thing as too big a bow for a little girl to wear. We also have lots, so if needed ask me to bring some.
  • If you are drawn to warm colors, shoot in the evening. If cool colors, shoot early morning.

As always, I am here to help. I’d be happy to help you select your wardrobe for your session. Just contact me!
